Chuc Mung Nam Moi! Happy New Year!
Monday (Jan. 23) kicked off the first day of the Vietnamese New Year. If you haven’t realized it yet, it’s the Year of the Dragon!
Some people refer to it as the Chinese New Year, but many other Asian cultures observe this holiday too. In Vietnamese culture, it’s called Tet. Celebrations last for 3 days, and it is THE most important holiday of the year. While growing up, holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas were just an average day in my parents’ house.
One evening, I came across an episode of United Tastes of America on the Cooking Channel, and it was all about dumplings from different cultures. I couldn’t resist watching the entire program since I LOVE dumplings. One type the host talked about was the pierogi, and they visited a New York City restaurant that was well-known for them—Veselka.
I’ll admit it. I’ve used a Paula Deen recipe here and there. Just last night, I tried out her recipe for “Angel Biscuits.” They were so light and fluffy…almost heavenly.
If the news hasn’t reached you yet, Paula Deen is about to reveal that she has diabetes. There’s been speculation for some time, but never any confirmation of it…until now. Looks like she’s struck a deal with a pharmaceutical company to be the spokeswoman of a drug she’ll take to treat her diabetes.
